Craziest part about building a company is the cycles of loss of wisdom of how the company was built.. When a founder starts a company very early on they quickly learn how marketing is important and how much the survival of a company depends on it. Then they consistently market their company for years and grow it into a well known entity only to then grow their team and give the team more control over the company and its management. Unfortunately the teams have no clue how much marketing was required to grow the company into the success it is today and they then reduce the marketing effort only to slowly watch the companies demand die and again become a struggling business that has no clue why things dont work like they used to. Come across this very often when i speak with large companies. The owners are always very enthusiastic to increase marketing effort or to keep it consistent but teams just view it as something unimportant. A company owner will tell you the only 3 things that matter in a business is Demand(Marketing) + Product + Supply(HR and Materials Supply). I think marketing effort decisions should ideally be made by people who have grown companies from 0 to being a profitable enterprise because they know what knid of nightmare it is to run a business when nobody knows you exist.
